Colombia

Colombia is the world’s second exporter of Arabica coffee, with a worldwide production of about 8 million bags.

Colombia is charcterized by two crops, the main crop going from April to June and the secondary crop from October to January.

The types that are usually treated, besides the stocklots and the special coffees offered on the market from time to time, are the following:

  • Supremo

Coffee with big, flat, uniform and well selected grains. Normally with a screen of 17/18.

  • Excelso

Supremo type coffee, blended with flat grains of inferior screen as well as spherical grains (caracol or peaberries). This type constitutes 70% of Colombian exports.

  • Caracol

Coffee with rounded, well selected, big and medium sized grains. Coffe characterized by a high body, high aroma and high acidity.

  • Maragogype

Coffee made of considerably big beans, with especially selected grains over screen 20.

To a broader extent, Colombian coffees are usually characterized by a greenish color, with an almond leaning taste and a strong aroma, a rich body and medium-high acidity.
